A couple of days ago, I went to assist my grandmother in some early Spring cleaning. haha, get it because really it's still Fall, and you're supposed to clean in the Spring. Anyways. Usually every time I'm over there, I end up coming home with something really cool. This time I came home with quite a few things--including a really awesome red plaid flannel blanket that I'll definitely bring with me to Washington--but two were my favorites.
The first of my favorites was a 20's themed Barbie doll (in original packaging, of course). My grandma has this massive Barbie collection (most of them are I Love Lucy, is that ironic, or?), and I love that she wants me to have some of it. I remember when I was, like, 8 years old and trying to be grown up, and she tried to give me a Grease Barbie doll. I threw a fit about how I didn't want it (even though I really did) because I was too old for Barbies. Looking back, I really wish I would have kept the Barbie doll because now I want to have a collection just like my grandma. I've even talked Ashley into thinking it would be cool to have a Barbie display in our apartment. I love the one she gave me because it reminds me of one of my favorite books, The Great Gatsby. Naturally, I have a 20's outfit almost like this one.
The next thing that I found at my grandma's is the most beautiful portrait. I kind of actually sort of stole this painting. I say that because when I told my grandma I wanted it, I pretty much was not taking no as an answer--that painting was going to be mine. I love paintings. I love to draw, I'm actually kind of good at it, but I've never been talented when it comes to painting. I admire (and envy) those who can paint. Anyways, what I love about this painting is the details of the lace dress and hat and the roses but the smoothness of the woman's face. I could never do that. I also really like the colors. I'm a little into pink.. just a little. When I asked my grandma if I could have it, she told me it was a Home Interior painting, which from my days of running the family's yard sales, I know that Home Interior went out of business, or something...? I absolutely am in love with this painting, though, so I'm glad I found it.
